Electronic design is the process of creating electronic circuits and systems by selecting components (like resistors, capacitors, transistors, and integrated circuits) and interconnecting them to achieve specific functions, while meeting requirements for performance, power, cost, size, and reliability. It typically involves tools like Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software to draw schematics, simulate circuits, and lay out printed circuit boards (PCBs).
Prototyping in electronics is building preliminary physical versions of a design to test and validate its functionality, feasibility, and performance before full production. It helps identify issues early, iterate on improvements, and reduce risks and costs.
Common prototyping methods include:
1.Breadboarding: Quick, solderless assembly using reusable boards for initial testing.
2.Custom PCBs: Soldered prototypes closer to the final product.
3.Enclosures and mechanical integration: Often using 3D printing for housings.
Together, electronic design and prototyping form an iterative cycle in product development: design theoretically, prototype physically, test/debug, refine, and repeat until ready for manufacturing. This approach is essential for everything from simple gadgets to complex IoT devices or consumer electronics.
