Die casting has several types, primarily categorized based on the method of injection and the materials used. Here are the main types:
High-Pressure Die Casting: This method involves injecting molten metal into a mold at high pressure. It's commonly used for aluminum, zinc, and magnesium alloys, producing parts with excellent dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
Low-Pressure Die Casting: In this process, molten metal is poured into a mold and then pressurized from below. It is often used for larger components and allows for better control over the metal flow, reducing defects.
Gravity Die Casting: This technique relies on gravity to fill the mold with molten metal. It is typically used for larger parts and can be done with both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It offers good surface finishes but is less precise than high-pressure methods.
Permanent Mold Casting: In this method, molds are made from durable materials (like steel or iron) that can be reused multiple times. It is suitable for producing parts with complex geometries and good surface quality.
Sand Casting: Although not a traditional die casting method, sand casting uses a sand mold to form metal parts. It is often used for larger items and can accommodate a variety of metals.
Each type of die casting has its advantages and is chosen based on the specific requirements of the part being produced, such as size, complexity, and material properties.
