Materials for Zinc Die Casting Prototypes
Zinc die casting primarily uses zinc-based alloys, with the Zamak family being the most common due to their excellent castability, strength, and cost-effectiveness. These alloys are ideal for robotic components like housings, gears, brackets, or sensor mounts due to their high precision, thin-wall capability, and good mechanical properties. Below are the key zinc alloys used:
1. Zamak 3 (AG40A)
Composition: ~96% zinc, 4% aluminum, trace amounts of magnesium and copper.
2. Zamak 5 (AG40B)
Composition: ~96% zinc, 4% aluminum, 1% copper, trace magnesium.
3. Zamak 2 (AG43A)
Composition: ~96% zinc, 4% aluminum, 3% copper, trace magnesium.
4. ZA Alloys (e.g., ZA-8, ZA-12, ZA-27)
Composition: Higher aluminum content (8-27%) with zinc, copper, and magnesium.
For zinc die casting prototypes, Zamak 3 and Zamak 5 are the primary materials due to their castability, strength, and cost-effectiveness, with ZA-8 as an option for lightweight, high-strength parts.
