- What is polyjet 3d printing?
PolyJet 3D printing (also called PolyJet Matrix or just PolyJet) is a high-precision additive manufacturing technology developed by Stratasys. It works similarly to inkjet printing, but instead of depositing ink on paper, it jets tiny droplets of liquid photopolymer resin onto a build platform and instantly cures them with UV light, layer by layer.
Key Features of PolyJet Technology
1.How it works:
a.Multiple print heads jet photopolymer resin droplets (as small as 16–30 microns per layer).
b.UV lamps mounted on the print head immediately cure each layer.
c.Support material (usually a gel-like substance) is jetted simultaneously in areas that need support and is later removed (by hand, water jet, or dissolved).
2..Resolution & Surface Finish:
a.One of the highest-resolution 3D printing technologies available.
b.Layer thickness: typically 16–32 microns (0.016–0.032 mm).
c.Extremely smooth surfaces straight out of the printer — often comparable to injection molding.
3.Materials:
a.Wide range of photopolymers: rigid, rubber-like (Shore A hardness from 27–95), transparent, colored, biocompatible, high-temperature, and simulated ABS/PP.
b.Digital Materials: By jetting two or more base resins in different ratios at the voxel level, PolyJet can create hundreds of composite materials with varying hardness, color, or translucency in a single print (e.g., rigid parts with soft-touch overmolded grips).
4.Multi-material & Full-Color:
a.True multi-material printing in one job (unlike FDM or SLS).
b.Full-color capability (CMYK + white + clear) using Vero family resins — up to 500,000+ color combinations plus gradients and textures.
5.Typical Applications:
a.Highly detailed prototypes and visual models
b.Medical models (anatomical, surgical planning)
c.Consumer product design validation (appearance models)
d.Overmolding prototypes
e.Silicone molds (master patterns)
f.Jewelry and dental models
